While we pride ourselves on universal healthcare, far too many people fall through the cracks, especially Indigenous, older adults, racialized, low-income, and rural and remote communities. The cracks are widening into chasms. Canadians are living longer than ever but we’re not living well.
Key Realities:
of Canadians live with at least one chronic disease
Canadians provide care to someone, and two-thirds of caregivers are women
Canadians by age 40 have experienced a mental illness
Canadians are over 50, and nearly half report feeling socially isolated
Chronic conditions are rising. Mental health challenges are deepening. Addictions are growing. Food insecurity is widespread. Aging populations, caregiver exhaustion, health inequities, and care deserts are becoming the norm, not the exception. Access to innovative solutions and services are still out of reach for underserved communities and equity-deserving groups.
Across Canada, bold innovators are building solutions that are transforming how anyone, anytime, anywhere can live, age, and care for one another. They’re designing culturally safe care models for Indigenous communities, reimagining smart homes for older adults so they can age in place with dignity, deploying AI for faster mental health support for non-English speakers, and tackling early diabetes detection and course correction with precision.
But most of these solutions never reach scale or the people that need it most because the capital and ecosystem to grow them is grossly insufficient.
It’s time to change that.
We are the country’s only impact-focused venture fund linked to a pan-Canadian healthcare delivery ecosystem. SE Impact Ventures is founded by SE Health, one of Canada’s largest non-profit health organizations with a history of innovation and equity that dates back 115 years.
Fund 1 was approximately $15M and helped grow health ventures like Maple, Sanctuary AI and Willful. We are now scaling our impact with Fund 2, an ambitious $50M that aims to transform and improve wellbeing for all Canadians — focused on Living Well, Aging Well, and Caring Well.
